Lonnie Rodiger was a murderer and pedophile who for a time avoided justice for his crimes. He was portrayed by Matthew Sherbach.
Background[]
Lonnie Rodiger was a pedophile who had been suspected of murdering Ben Corson, younger brother of Chicago Police Department Detective Jay Halstead's high school sweetheart. While he had pictures of Ben Corson and was in possession of child pornography, he avoided jail time because his father, Phil Rodiger gave him a good alibi and hired a good lawyer to beat the accusations. Determined to stop Lonnie, Halstead parked his car outside Rodiger's house in plain view every year on the anniversary of Corson's death. This was a way to show he had not forgotten Lonnie.
Season 1[]
In Chin Check, Jay carries out his yearly vigil, and Lonnie is dismayed to see him again. Phil is enraged by Jay's actions and soon calls the cops on him, but Jay manages to get rid of them by showing them his badge. Jay notices Lonnie come out of the house, and shouts at him that Corson would be a teenager by now. As a result, Phil promised to file a restraining order against Jay.
In Now Is Always Temporary Jay's conflict with the Rodiger family intensifies when he violates the restraining order and confronts them at a bar, beating Phil up in front of Lonnie and his friends. Jay proceeds to show security his badge and storms out.
In Different Mistakes, as a result of the bar fight, Jay's superior officer, Sergeant Hank Voight, orders him to leave the Rodiger family alone or risk losing his job.
In A Material Witness, Jay suspects Lonnie is planning to kill again after discovering that Lonnie has bought items that matched his past attack. He warns Lonnie's father, declaring that his son is a predator. Soon afterward, Lonnie is found dead by strangulation.
In At Least It's Justice, Jay is suspected of killing Lonnie but after doing an investigation, he realizes that Phil Rodiger killed Lonnie. Jay confronts him at a bar, and Phil confesses, saying that he strangled his son in a fit of rage after he went through Lonnie's laptop and discovered the pictures of kids the same age as Ben Corson. Phil turns himself in, and Jay's name is cleared.
