Ian Marks was a career criminal who along with his associate Lucasz Gregorie robbed Sergeant Hank Voight's house. Following an attempt to aid Intelligence, he ends up being killed by his partner.
Background[]
Ian Marks hails from a family full of petty criminals and followed in their footsteps by becoming a petty crook himself. His most common crime was home invasions as he had open warrants for them in Indiana and Michigan. Marks had several aliases he used for many different purposes.
An Honest Woman[]
His associate Josie Valescu relayed to him that father of her friend's boyfriend had kept a large sum of money in a safe. Seeing this opportunity, he brought in fellow criminal Lucasz Gregorie for helping him take on the brutal cop. Marks also got info from Olive on where the safe was by torturing her and almost cutting her unborn child out.
He and Gregorie broke into Voight's house, kidnapping him and Olive, while also taking the safe. He watched as Gregorie tortured Hank by striking him in his wounded ribs with a crowbar and demanded the combination, but Voight wouldn't budge. At Gregorie's order, Marks placed a bag on Olive's head while knowing she and her unborn baby would suffocate. Once Hank gave it up, Marks quickly open the safe and took the money while Gregorie coldly refused to take the bag off Olive. They are forced to leave Hank and Olive after his team breach. While fleeing with the money, Josie would pay a homeless man to burn the van.
Sometime later, Intelligence discovered Marks identity and found about his association with Josie. Voight interrogated Josie who revealed that she relayed this to Marks who brought in Gregorie.
Afterwards, Marks became fearful of Gregorie and decides to turn himself over, Trudy Platt informed Intelligence of Marks being present. The smug Marks tells Voight that he figured the safest place would be is lock-up before he is grabbed by the furious Voight and handcuffed. He also tells him that he still his share of the loot, but Gregorie has the rest. Voight then drags the cuffed Marks away, while the latter tries to protest about this because there are witnesses who all look the other way, causing him to curse them.
Voight takes Marks to Silos, where he proceeds to exact revenge on the protesting man who tells Voight that Gregorie is the one with the pouch in the safe. Voight silences him by beating and threatening him to find his partner in exchange for living rather than going into witness protection like he hoped. Voight then puts great fear into Marks until he agrees to the deal. Voight also makes sure to ask if Olive had any role in the robbery while Marks confirms that she did not. While in his cell, he is made to go and meet Lucasz. He remarks that the cops are scarier than the criminals, something they take in stride.
He later meets Gregorie at the station, assuring him things went smoothly but as they walk, Gregorie quickly discovered the setup and kills Marks with a shot to the head, flees with the money through the crowd, then takes a woman hostage, but is approached from behind by Jay and Erin and they managed to arrest him.
