Fool's Gold is the nineteenth episode of Season 9 and the 183rd overall episode of Chicago P.D. It aired on April 20, 2022.

Summary[]

After the murder of a wealthy Chicago man, Atwater and the team dig in to uncover the truth, suspecting there is more to the story than meets the eye.

Plot[]

At the precinct, Kevin interviews Sam who is calm and tries to paint Raquel as a liar. He brings up how she changed her identity multiple times and conned people, while implying she was in on his crime. He then taunts Kevin by adding him as one of her easy marks before Kevin leaves. Intelligence tell Kevin that they couldn't find the evidence Raquel told them of and start to question her. Kevin goes to see Raquel, who again protests her innocence and states Sam had threatened her in calls over the last decade and begs him to believe.

With this Kevin searches the house, but nothing turns up and just as he's about to give up, he notices a tile in the ceiling loose. Investigating, he removes the tile and finds a bag containing phones, money, and texts on files, relieving him at getting proper evidence to the case. Kevin proceeds to confront Sam with his discovery, stating that is sixteen years' worth of proof that confirms everything Sam was saying was a lie and shows how he manipulated and threatened Raquel. Sam tries to deny it but Kevin states with the files, he is officially done and he has the chance to talk to him to properly explain things. Realizing he's finished, Sam refuses the offer and demands a lawyer.

Much later, Kevin has Raquel released and tells her that Sam is officially gone from her life, as the ASA has enough to ensure he is put away for good. He asks her what she intends to do now and she reveals she intends to bury Brent, before going somewhere else for a fresh start. Kevin inquires on this, as Raquel voices that she feels all the lies that she has lived will make that hard to stay. She brings up what Kevin told her earlier about lying to someone and asks who he lied to, as he reveals with his occupation of working undercover, lying is what he does. Raquel smiles at this before hugging him and thanking him for his help. He watches Raquel leave in a police car with her bags. After she is gone, Kevin dials Celeste again and after she doesn't answer, he leaves a message to apologize for how he treated her and doesn't expect her to call back though promises he'll leave her alone.
