Plot[]
Kim is meeting up with her first CI, Sienna, to gather information on a supplier when Sienna tells her about her friend, Isabel's, abusive boyfriend. She tries telling Kim how the boyfriend had murdered his past girlfriend and is worried for Isabel. Kim ignores it as she believes Sienna is making up the story. Hailey, who was with Kim, advises Kim to follow up on Sienna's story. Kim believes she has to do things by the book, but Hailey tells her that you sometimes have to follow your gut.
Meanwhile, Adam tells Voight and Alvin about his recent meeting with Woods, telling them that Woods' weakness is Voight. Voight still doesn't trust Adam but Alvin assures him that he believes Adam. Jay, later, talks to Voight about the Camilla mess he was in, apologizing for his actions. Voight puts him on desk duty for the time being and schedules an appointment with a psychologist for Jay.
Kim returns from a coffee run, giving Trudy and Hailey a cup when Hailey gets a call from Homicide. She and Kim head to the scene where patrol tells them about the female body found near an abandoned factory. The details of the case match up with the details Sienna gave about the murder her friend told her about. Hailey tells Kim how she had a hunch that Sienna's story was true and followed up on it, apologizing for overstepping. Kim is disappointed but shocked to know that Sienna was telling the truth all along. Back at the district, Kim and Hailey update the team on their Jane Doe. Kim tells them how the Jane Doe was possibly murdered by her boyfriend, who is now dating Isabel Perez, Sienna's friend. According to Sienna, Isabel has been missing for 3 weeks. Voight tells Kim and Hailey to go talk to Sienna again and the rest of the team to find out more about the Jane Doe. Jay asks Voight if he can go back onto the field, but Voight turns him down, reminding Jay about his therapy appointment. Jay finally gets to his appointment but believes he doesn't have anything to talk about.
At the ME's office, the examiner tells Antonio and Alvin about the Jane Doe and the numerous cosmetic procedures she has had. She tells the detectives how the victim was injected with motor oil. After talking to her CI, Kim and Hailey visit the shelter, Isabel was last seen at and talk to Juan Martinez and Amanda, Isabel's counselor. Amanda tells them Isabel was getting these cosmetic procedures because her boyfriend wanted her to. Hailey meets up with a CI of hers, Raul, asking whether he knew of any off-the-book plastic surgery locations.
Meanwhile, Adam and Kevin ID the Jane Doe as Sylvia Castro, who worked at the same strip club that Isabel worked at. After talking to Raul, Hailey and Kim go to an address and find the doctor who treated Isabel. After recognizing Isabel's picture, he tells them about her boyfriend, Damien Soto. Back at the district, Antonio informs the team how Sylvia was living at the same shelter as Isabel called Jenny's Haven. After looking up Damien Soto in their database, they realize that Damien is Juan Martinez, the man they talked to earlier about Isabel. They go to arrest him but find his place empty as he had left in a rush, but they find evidence that Damien has other girls in his custody. Kim and Hailey leave Damien's place to go talk to Sienna. Sienna tells them how her friend saw Isabel last night with a guy looking to buy dope. To find Isabel, Kim tells Sienna to go around town asking for Isabel's dealer. Sienna is hesitant as the job is dangerous, and Hailey agrees, but Kim doesn't care and threatens to file her case if she doesn't. After sending Sienna off, Hailey tells Kim that she was too tough on Sienna, but Kim tells her that it's part of the job.
Back at the district, Jay tells the team how Damien was advertising Isabel but took down the website when he found out the cops were looking for her. Antonio informs them that Damien was using these girls for prostitution and when the girls got out of line, he killed them. Voight talks to a friend of his, who runs an operation similar to Damien's but doesn't get much information. Instead, he is asked whether he likes his new friend Nicole. Back at the district, Voight asks the team whether there are any new updates, and Kim tells him how her CI is asking around for Isabel's dealer. She gets a call from patrol about a crime scene and seems shocked. She and Hailey head over to the scene and find the dead body to belong to Sienna. Later Adam confronts Kim after seeing her sad, and she tells him that she may have pushed her CI too much, but Adam assures her that she did the right thing. She thinks Sienna was killed by Damien after Isabel's dealer, Eduardo Valera, tipped him off. So, the team heads over to Eduardo's place and threatens to arrest him unless he helps them find Isabel. Eduardo agrees to help, telling them Isabel is coming to his place to buy drugs soon. Antonio quickly grasps at the opportunity and makes Eduardo his new CI, which makes Adam and Kevin realize how Antonio has so many CIs. After waiting, Isabel finally gets to Eduardo's place with Damien driving. Kim and Antonio grab Isabel while Adam and Kevin try to arrest Damien, but he flees before they can get to him.
They bring Isabel in, hoping to get her to tell them where Damien is, but Isabel doesn't budge. Voight tells Adam and Kim to bring Isabel to a safe house for the night. At the safe house, they help Isabel settle in, giving her a phone to call in case of emergencies. Adam tries once more to get Isabel to tell them where Damien is, but Kim stops him. They later wait outside the safe house, hoping Isabel uses the phone to call Damien. Adam is confused about why Isabel is so loyal to Damien, but Kim tells him that Isabel is in love with Damien, and for her, nothing else matters. Isabel finally calls Damien and asks him to pick her up. The team arrives and corners him when he gets there, but Damien pulls out a gun. Kim shoots him and goes to comfort Isabel.
The team informs Jay and Voight that Damien is in surgery and that he will be okay, but they still don't know where Damien is keeping the other girls. Hailey asks Jay about therapy, but Jay doesn't seem interested in it. So, Hailey threatens to find a new partner if he doesn't try and take it seriously, and Jay just rolls his eyes. Hailey goes to a bar to talk to her CI Raul, hoping to get a location on the girls, but Raul tells her that if he asks around, he could end up getting killed. Not wanting to risk her CI's life, she tells him not to chase it. Later, she tells Kim what happened, and Kim is furious, telling Hailey that it's Raul's job to get information, but Hailey tells her that she isn't going to make Raul do anything if it's too risky.
At the hospital, Voight and Alvin talk to Damien, asking where the girls are. Still, he tells them nothing, so Voight tries to kill him with a Morphine overdose but is interrupted by the doctor coming in. Voight and Al leave his room but talk to the nurse in charge of Damien's care asking her to leave her phone behind in his room. Later, Damien uses the phone to call one of his friends so he can sell the girls to make some cash. The team tracks the call to Cesar Ramos, and they begin to follow him. They eventually follow him to a house, and before Cesar can go inside, Antonio and Hailey arrest him. The team enters the house and finds the girls inside, but one of the girls who had diabetes has died. Kim is saddened but looks over at Upton, partially blaming her for the girl's death.
Back at the district, Voight and Kim talk to Isabel again, hoping to get her to flip on Damien. She continues to protect Damien, but after listening to the phone call Damien made to sell the girls, she realizes who Damien really is. Kim tells Isabel how she was once in a relationship with a guy who didn't care about her, and she eventually decided to end it, which made her feel better. Adam, who was watching the interview, seems to be shocked after hearing this. Isabel finally agrees to help, telling them where Damien had hidden the metal rod he used to kill Sylvia Castro.
Later, Hailey finds Kim in the locker room and tells her they have enough evidence to charge Damien with murder, but Kim doesn't feel better as the team wasn't able to save one of the girls. Realizing Kim's disappointment, Hailey tells her that she doesn't regret protecting her CI, but now she has to live her life knowing that one of the girls died because of her choice. Kim believes that if she hadn't pushed Sienna, they wouldn't have found the girls, but Sienna would still be alive. Hailey tells her that you just have to trust your instincts, and Kim agrees, saying that you have to "trust your gut, not the book". Ultimately, Hailey asks Kim if she wants to grab dinner later in the week, which Kim accepts.
Jay finally heads back to the therapist's office wanting to talk, deciding to take therapy seriously. At Molly's, Kim and Adam are having a drink when Adam brings up the conversation that Kim had with Isabel about her past relationship, thinking it's about him, but Kim denies it telling him that it was just a story. Letting the topic go, Adam asks Kim if she wants to go back to his place, and Kim quickly denies it, not wanting to go backward in life, but later kisses him and agrees to have some fun that night.

Quotes[]
Burgess: Raul's job, an informant's job, is to provide information. He is an asset to the Chicago Police Department.
Upton: No, he is a person and he is a friend.
Ruzek: Why is she protecting that son of a bitch? I don't get it.
Burgess: Because she's in love with him.
Ruzek: In love with him?
Burgess: Yeah.
Ruzek: That's not love. That's Stockholm Syndrome.
Burgess: Try telling her it's not love. Sometimes, people, they trick themselves into believing what they want to believe because it feels better than the alternative.
Ruzek: Well sometimes it's real. And there's no trick or delusions. It's just good. It might be complicated but it's good.
Upton: Yah, the book's not always right. Sometimes you gotta trust your gut.
