Chris Campbell is a criminal who, along with his cousin, Jeff Gamble, was hired by Oskar Bembenek to recover a blood-stained T-shirt that was evidence at Bembenek's trial.
Background[]
It is mentioned that Chris Campbell was an accomplice in the different robberies carried out with his cousin, Jeff Gamble. The gangster Oskar Bembenek was being tried after having murdered a lover, with the only evidence of the murder being a blood-stained shirt. After the trial, Bembenek's lawyer got the prosecution to approve a second DNA analysis of Bembenek's shirt. At that moment, Oskar contacted Jeff, Chris, and Christian. Oskar gave them the task of stealing the shirt, in order not to be prosecuted and remain free. After three days Luke Hendricks, a company worker who had also been hired by Bembenek, has the company hire Christian and pose him as a passenger in the van that was going to transport Bembenek's bloody t-shirt. Chris and Jeff also go with Fritz Welson to weld a metal plate to the van they were going to use in the robbery.
Call It Macaroni[]
Chris Campbell along with his cousin, Jeff Gamble, go to steal the truck, crashing their vehicle into the truck where Hank Voight and Antonio Dawson were. with that, Christian, who was inside the shipping truck murders the officer who was driving. Christian then tries to murder Adam Ruzek, who manages to escape. Campbell and Gamble get out of the car and begin shooting at the Chicago police, in the middle of the shooting Gamble is shot and dies. Campbell and Christian stole Bembenek's shirt and subsequently escaped. Oskar Bembenek considered Luke Hendricks a loose end, so he had men come to his house and then shot him in the stomach. He later had them go to Fritz Welson's mechanic's shop, where he was also murdered for being a loose end. Campbell remained hidden inside the house of Junie Gamble, his aunt, later officers Sean Roman and Kim Burgess go to Junie's house to ask if she had seen Campbell, but she tells them that she had not seen Campbell since he returned to town. At that moment, it sounds like someone was pulling a toilet lever, which alerts Sean who also manages to see Campbell leaving the bathroom. Sean pushes Junie aside, but she grabs Sean's foot, yelling at her nephew to run. Kim chases Campbell through the neighborhood, until after crossing an alley Sean elbows him and subsequently arrests him. Campbell is taken to an interrogation room, where Erin Lindsay tells him that they could prove that Campbell was one of the people who stole the truck, in addition to also telling him that they could file charges against him for the attempted murder of a police officer, Jay Halstead as well as the murders of the van driver and his cousin. Halstead asks Campbell how much Bembenek had paid him to get the shirt back. Campbell is surprised and Jay reveals that they already knew he worked for Bembenek. Campbell breaks down and confesses, saying that he never knew the police were going to be present and that everything went wrong, and that there were supposed to be no police, just a security team. Campbell also mentions that together with the third accomplice Christian, they told Bembenek that they wanted another $20,000 for the delivery of the shirt or else they would deliver it to a police station. Campbell is taken to the cage while the Chicago police were planning an ambush on Bembenek. He soon agrees to help them, in exchange for a lesser sentence. Campbell and Christian meet with Oskar Bembenek, his brother Jacob Bembenek and 2 other security guards, there Oskar gives the $20,000 to Campbell. After Campbell gives them the money, he gives the shirt to Bembenek, after confirming that the shirt was the real one, Bembenek ordered his security guards to kill Campbell and Christian, for being loose ends. Campbell panicked but at that moment the Chicago police arrive, who arrest the security guards and Oskar.
Chris is presumably jailed for murder and armed robbery but given a lesser charge for cooperation.
