Burzek is the relationship between Intelligence members Kim Burgess & Adam Ruzek in Chicago PD.
Overview[]
Kim and Adam always had a flirtatious relationship. When they first met, Adam was engaged to another woman. They kept a professional relationship, but after a tough case, the two shared their first kiss. They decided to forget it ever happened, as Adam was still engaged. Adam's engagement fell apart and Kim and Adam decided to pursue this romance, which led to their engagement in the end of season 2.
Kim had a hard time to get into Intelligence because of her relationship with Adam, but she cared too much about her relationship, so she continued on with patrol. After some time, Kim decided to end he engagement, worried that Adam wasn't devoted to this marriage. There was tension around each other at first, but later they were able to have a close friendship and occasionally hooked up. It is obvious that the two have feelings for each other, but things always get in the way of it.
Season 1[]
In season 1, Kim first meets Adam who is engaged to a girl named Wendy. Throughout the season the two have many encounterments, many flirtatious. In episode 6 (Conventions) Adam and Kim meet for the first time.
In episode 10 (At Least It's Justice,) Kim and Adam share their first kiss, the two get caught in the moment until Kim pulls away, apologises and drives off. Things are a little awkward for them after this.
In episode 15 (A Beautiful Friendship) Kim and Adam hook up for the first time after Adam reveals to Kim that he likes her.
Season 2[]
In season 2, we see many cute and flirty moments & makeouts between Kim and Adam. They both date throughout the season and try their best to keep it secret for the most of it. Kim gets shot at the end of episode 9 (Called in Dead) and in episode 10 (Shouldn't Have Been Alone) Adam is very concerned about Kim, this is where Platt figures out about the two. When Kim wakes up after surgery, she sees how worried Adam is about her, Adam confesses to Kim that he loves her and she tells him she loves him too. In episode 23 (Born Into Bad News) Adam proposes to Kim in the locker room, where she accepts and the pair share a passionate kiss.
Season 3[]
Adam and Kim are engaged throughout the first half of season 3. Kim begins to doubt Adam after finding out he had been engaged twice before, towards the middle of the season Kim decides to break the engagement off due to Adam putting off meeting her mother. She gives him back the ring and walks away. It's clear that Adam still loves Kim at this point.
Season 4[]
In season 4, Kim moves up to Intelligence in episode 8 (A Shot Heard Around the World) which makes things awkward between herself and Adam. Adam then takes an undercover assignment to put distance between himself and is ex fiancee leaving his spot open. He returns in episode 14 (Seven Indictments) where they share a kiss.
Season 5[]
In season 5, Kim and Adam don't date. In episode 11 (Confidential) Adam suggests to Kim that they give their relationship another go, Kim says that they'd only move backwards instead of forwards and Adam turns away, she then tells him she feels like having some fun and they share a kiss before heading out of Molly's.
Season 6[]
In season 6, Kim and Adam aren't involved romantically. They both go on to date other people this season.
Season 7[]
In season 7, Kim and Adam go through a rollercoaster of emotional events. In Episode 4 (Infection, Part III Crossover) after a long shift, Adam asks Kim would she want to come home with him, she agrees, and they have an offscreen hookup/one night stand. In episode 8 (No Regrets) Kim finds out that she is pregnant with Adam's baby. Kim wonders whether she'll keep the baby, though informs him of the pregnancy. He was unsure if she wants to keep it.
In episode 10 (Mercy) Burgess finally makes the decision that she's going to keep the baby. In episode 13 (I Was Here) after receiving a distressing 911 call while working the call center, she goes back to work the case with Intelligence and later ends up getting in a fight which she ends up losing the baby. After losing the baby Kim became distant from Adam and wanted him to be angry with her for losing the baby.
Season 8[]
In season 8, Kim and Adam grew closer as a result of her miscarriage. In episode 5 (In Your Care) Kim and Adam come back after a night out to have a movie night, things then get heated between them and they hookup. In the same episode, they meet their future daughter Makayla who they met previously in Tender Age
Season 9[]
In season 9, Kim and Adam adjust to being parents and how that affects their relationship dynamic. Kim copes with the after-effects of getting shot and nearly dying in the season 8 finale, and Adam struggles with getting Kim to fully let him in when it comes to their modern family with Makayla. In episode 10 (Home Safe), Makayla’s biological uncle appears and wants to fight Kim and Adam for custody. In episode 14 (Blood Relation), Kim and Adam are rewarded full custody of Makayla. In episode 15 (Gone), Kim and Adam deal with every parent’s worst fear when Makayla is kidnapped from their apartment. Kim and Ruzek deals with the aftermath of the kidnapping in episode 17 (Adrift) and episode 20 (Memory).
