Adres Diaz (aka "Pulpo") was a drug lord and criminal. He was portrayed by Arturo Del Puerto.
Background[]
Pulpo was not affiliated with any Colombian Cartels at the start, acting alone. He was working his way up to a street enforcer when he first met Julie Willhite and Antonio Dawson who tried and failed to convict him. At some point Pulpo would be arrested on suspicion of two murders. Unfortunately, the two key witnesses were killed before they can testify against him. At this point everyone knew Pulpo and started to call him by that alias. Pulpo would later meet this woman named Lina and would have a little boy together. Puplo eventually managed to become a Drug lord. Becoming a Drug lord Pulpo made lots of allies such as Stepan Nestrov a Russian gang leader. Pulpo fronted Stepan Nestrov and his crew 1 million dollars of cocaine.
Before the start of the episode Stepping Stone, Pulpo would meet and come to know a drug dealer by the name of Rev. He supplied Rev with his drugs, but after finding out that people call Rev a snitch behind his back Pulpo decided to get rid of Rev and his crew. Before, doing so he brought a couple of men with him.
History[]
We first meet Pulpo in Stepping Stone, in Rev's apartment room. Rev is gaged and on a chair with two of Pulpo's men, Mateo and Ernesto next to him. Pulpo plays with a lighter as he tells Rev how he was named Pulpo, explaining to Rev that he hears people calling him a snitch and is here to take care of that. When Pulpo is done he has his men drag Rev to the bathroom. Mateo then takes the cloth out of Rev's mouth as Puplo comes in with a machete. A few moments later Jay and Erin disguised as junkies knock at Rev's door (trying to catch him for the three deaths that accrued from his drugs). Pulpo opens the door and Jay askes him where Rev is. Jay almost enters the room when Erin stops him seeing blood on Puplo's pants. The intelligence unit comes to the apartment complex but before they can get close shot are fired. Pulpo and his men then manage to escape. Pulpo and his men then go to Coop's house and kill him too. They then go to Shane Cameron's apartment and kill him. However, hearing a knock at the door one of them shoots at it and the bullet hits Detective Julie Willhite. Pulpo flees in a car but is eventually captured and put in the cage. Antonio comes in, already mad and after Pulpo spites on his hand that have Julie's blood, he attacks him. Antonio then finds out from his wife that their son, Diego is gone, as he was taken by Mateo and Ernesto.
In Wrong Side of the Bars, Antonio goes to Pulpo who is now in a cell and asks Pulpo where his son is. Pulpo just looks around the cell and jokingly tells Antonio that he is not here. Pulpo only suggests that Antonio give the kidnappers what they want (knowing they want him). Antonio then meets Puplo again and asks him on how he can trade the drug lord for his son. However, Pulpo demands a private plan something that Antonio can't give him. Then Bruce Beldon comes and tells Antonio to just stay away from Pulpo which he begrudgingly does. Fortunately, they manage to rescue Antonio's son and with that Pulpo is sent to prison.
In Turn the Light Off, Ron Perry tells Voight and Dawson that Pulpo is being brought out of prison by Bruce Belden to lure out Gustav Munoz, something that they are not pleased with.
In My Way, On Pulpo's orders, Munoz kills eight people in a house that was making drugs. With this Ron Perry orders Pulpo to be brought in as soon as possible. Pulpo is released from prison in protective custody to help in the capture of Gustav Munoz. This creates some tension in the Intelligence unit specifically Antonio who still holds a grudge against the drug lord for arranging the kidnapping of his son. Pulpo sends Antonio who has one of his men, Benito Vadala to fool another Cartel member, Marcos Robles to working with him in the gambit works. However, they learn that they were set on a wild goose chase when two Ukrainian Mob bosses are killed by Munoz. After finding out that Pulpo was playing with them tensions are even higher. Regardless, they are able to get him to cooperate after they discovered that he has a son with one of his former lovers, Lina Ochoa. Pulpo tells them that Munoz will be at the festival where Francisco Heredia will be, to take him out. The team go to the festival undercover. As Pulpo said Munoz shows up with another man. They both killed the Heredia's guards and were going to kill Heredia when they were both shot dead. After the intelligence unit comes back to the district, Antonio orders Pulpo to be sent back to prison. However, Pulpo is promised the chance to hug his son and lover before he goes. Unfortunately, Pulpo uses this is a ploy to escape. He was able to acquire a gun from his lover and with this he killed Bruce Beldon, the guards, and critically wound Antonio.
In The Docks, a manhunt is issued for Pulpo. Pulpo and his family hide in a van disguised as a paddy wagon driven by a cartel member named Carlos Guvera. Pulpo kills the man, then he exits the van with his family. After getting a new identity Pulpo drops off his family. He has his girlfriend rent a truck so she could get caught by police, a diversion to give him time. Pulpo tries to escape the country inside a shipping container with help from Stepan Nestrov. Intelligence locates the forger who reluctantly gives him up, but he is brought in for helping Pulpo. Pulpo's family is found with his girlfriend being arrested and his son put in foster care. Intelligence soon discover Pulpo's transactions with a Russian gang, who run a night club for their drug operation. The club owner, Stepan Nestrov makes a deal with Voight and offers up Pulpo's location and they find the fresh-shaven drug lord without incident. As promised, Voight dismisses everyone except Olinsky, and they bring Pulpo to an undisclosed warehouse. The scared Pulpo begs them for mercy, promising to give them other enemy gangs or to be sent back to prison, but is ignored and beaten viciously, before he is gagged and tied up for his crimes. He is soon loaded up in the trunk and taken to the docks, with cement tied with ropes around his neck. He once again begs to be arrested. However, Jay Halstead (who visited the still living Antonio and learned their location) arrives and finds the three of them, moments before sinking Pulpo into Lake Michigan wearing a "Chicago necklace" chain around his neck linked to cement blocks. Voight refuses to give in until Olinsky sides with Halstead. Pulpo will receive his day in court. Because of this, Pulpo is spared and taken back to prison.
